No Sound In Firefox Flash Player Fix. This Works When Nothing Else Will.
In A Nutshell, Revert To Version 007 Of The Flash Player.
If you've recently upgraded your Firefox web browser, and / or the Flash Player Plugin, then you might not be able to hear sound in Flash videos or while trying to listen to embedded Flash sound files on particular websites (like this one).
After many, many headaches, I think I've found a solution when none of the other workarounds (like the wavemapper or registry edit fixes) do the trick…
Get rid of the new Flash Player 9 Plugin, and replace it with Version 7!
Keep reading for instructions on how to do this on a Windows machine. I assume a Mac solution would be similar.
How To Fix Sound In The Firefox Flash Player Plugin So You Can Listen To YouTube And Other Streaming Sites Again
First, delete any "Flash Player" directories / folders in your "C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER_NAME\Application Data\" directory (you should find these near the bottom of the folder hierarchy in the "Macromedia," "Adobe," and "Mozilla" directories).
HINT: Double-Click "My Computer" then C:\ drive, then "Documents and Settings," then whatever your user name happens to be, then "Application Data." Once inside "Application Data" (which might be hidden from view—if so: use the menu in the File Explorer Window…Tools >> Folder Options >> View >> Show Hidden Files And Folders…make sure that last command is selected), you'll have to double-click each of the appropriate folders (Macromedia, Adobe, and Mozilla) independently and hunt down the "Flash Player" directory hiding in each of them. Again, you should delete these folders.
Now, go to: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14266. Once you're there, click the Flash Player 7 download link (or click the one I just provided you) and download the executable file to your desktop.
Close Firefox.
Now open the file you just downloaded, and follow the instructions.
Viola! Next time you open up Firefox, the sound should work fine!
